Music Key Stage 3 - Find your Voice Lesson 1

Objectives

By the end of this lesson you will have learnt…

How to realise the capacity of the voice by exploring the sounds you can make and by vocalising a variety of instrumental parts as part of an ensemble

Task 1

Watch this video:

  • Can you identify what happens musically in the video?
  • What is a chord?
  • Can you name any instruments that wouldn’t play chords?
  • What is the video trying to convey to the audience?

Task 2

Class ensemble performance

Learn the four vocal riffs your teacher demonstrates for you.

Choose which part you feel most comfortable with.

Build these up into a vocals only backing track that includes bass, rhythm, guitar parts, and melodic riff.

When these parts fit together they form a harmony which follows a special repeating chord sequence called:

 I – V – VI – IV

Task 3

Think of songs that fit this chord pattern and try the vocal melody over the class backing

Your teacher will record this performance and you can watch it back thinking about WWW/EBI and CTG
