Key Stage 3 Music - Gaming Music

Creating Background Music

Lesson Objectives

  • Learn how to create an exciting drum part in Cubase.

Task 2

Follow the PowerPoint instructions below to learn how to set up a drum part ('02. Adding an instrument' and '03. Setting up a blank part') and how to create an exciting drum pattern ('04. Inputting the part (drums)' and '05. Using duplicate (drums)')

Learn how to create an exciting bass line and chords that fit together.

The background music needs to have more than one layer to build tension and excitement so you will need to create a bass line part and a chord part that fit together making the music more suitable for this action game.

Task 3

To choose a bass instrument you just follow the PowerPoint instructions for '02 Adding an instrument' but where you chose the 'Drum&Perc' category previously you now choose the 'Bass' category to filter out just the bass instruments.

Set up a blank part again then follow the PowerPoint instructions '06. Inputting the part (bass)' to create an exciting drum pattern ('04. Inputting the part (drums)' and '05. Using duplicate (drums)')

Task 4

To choose an instrument to play chords just follow the PowerPoint instructions for '02 Adding an instrument' but where you chose the 'Bass' category previously you now choose a category for an instrument type that would be suitable to play chords (e.g. 'Guitar/plucked', 'Keyboard', 'Organ', 'Piano', 'Strings' or my favourite 'Synth Pad').

Set up a blank part again then follow the PowerPoint instructions '07. Inputting the part (chords)'.
