Key Stage 3 Music - Pop Music

Lesson 2

Lesson Objectives

  • Develop our understanding of "Pop Music" characteristics through performance.

Starter

If your teacher filmed you last lesson, watch your class performance back. What new skills did you learn from last lesson?

Seven Nation Army

Listen to "Seven Nation Army". What instruments can you hear? What part would you identify as the main riff (the catchy part of the song)?

Practical Task 1

Using the resources, begin to learn Seven Nation Army on the piano.

There are a choice of resources, increasing in difficulty each time. Start by learning the main riff of the song and then work your way through the sheet. Be prepared to perform to the class.

Use your Initiative! The Science behind Music...

If you want to know the science behind why our brains remember certain songs, watch this TED link. Make sure you let your teacher know you have watched it and discuss your findings with them to gain a commendation!

Fancy a Challenge?

Have a go at one of the following...

  • Adding a bass line with your left hand.
  • Sing and play at the same time
  • Change the figuration of the chords by inverting them (ask your teacher if you need help with this!)
