Key Stage 3 Music - African Music

Lesson 8

Lesson Objectives

  • Rehearse our group compositions ready for an assessment.

Task 1

Discuss your targets set from last lesson and plan what you are going to work on for your final 15 minute rehearsal.

SUCCESS CRITERIA

  • A steady beat.
  • Good timing (all parts in time to together, following the beat)
  • A clear structure (beginning, middle and end or ABA)
  • Polyrhythms (including a syncopated rhythm).
  • Call and copy.
  • Call and response (with the response being clearly improvised and in time).
  • Dynamics (loud and quiet sections to make it exciting).
  • Solo sections.
  • Optional - vocals from the song Babethandaza

Task 2

Each group will perform to the class. Your teacher will give each group a number, which will also be the running order for the performances.

All of you will be assessing each group that performs. You will use the whiteboards to note down WWW and EBI. Use the SUCCESS CRITERIA to help you with this. You will be expected to share this information with the class, so ensure you complete this for each group that performs.

Your teacher will film all performances on the Ipad and will complete your continuous assessment data that is shared with your parents.
