African Drumming

Listen to this link and answer the following questions. You will be marked on how well you use the key musical vocabulary to describe what you hear. Please write in complete sentences and make sure your presentation is as neat as it can be, including spelling words correctly.

  • Identify what instruments you can see playing.
  • Describe what the singers are doing, think about texture, melody, pitch and how they react to each other.
  • Describe what the drummers are playing, think about how many rhythms are playing, whether they repeat, if they are improvising.
  • How does this performance reflect how the context of the music? Think about the social background and how African society uses music.
