What will you need to do for coursework?

Unit 3 builds on skills acquired in Unit 1, and extends these to include a composition task. It involves detailed study of Area of Study 3: The Development of Technology based Music.

You must complete three tasks which together make the Music Technology.

Portfolio 2

  • Task 3A: Sequenced Integrated Performance– you are required to accurately replicate a specific pop track using only MIDI sequencing and up to 3 live audio tracks. You are given a skeleton score of musical notation and the audio track.
  • Task 3B: Multi-track Recording– you have a choice of a pop/rock track that uses a minimum of 4 acoustic instruments to record in the multitrack studio and produce a professional quality recording.
  • Task 3C: Composing using Music Technology – for this final project you will be required to compose a piece demonstrating your skills with music technology, sampling and/or sound synthesis. The brief choices are lyrics to a song, a sample based piece or a script for film/media music.
  • You will also submit a logbook which will provide information on the resources used in each task.

Assessment

You will need to produce an audio CD entitled ‘Music Technology Portfolio 2’, containing three tracks of work as specified in the three tasks above and present a logbook, detailing equipment used.

The work is to be done under coursework conditions between the issue of the stimulus material in November and the submission date.
