Task 3A – Sequenced Integrated Performance

Key Points

Choose song, bear in mind need for decent vocal recording.
Research the equipment and sounds used. This may include trawling the Internet and patch libraries on your equipment for suitable timbres.
Set the tempo and tempo track if required.
Use a marker track to identify the structure of the song.
Identify any repetitive motifs or hooks that can be sequenced and copied.
Sequence the harmony then bass.
Use appropriate quantize for the style.
Apply effects, pan and extra performance data such as expression and modulation.
Create an audio track and record the vocal line.
Record any additional audio tracks.
Apply effects to audio and check mix.
Mixdown to stereo .wav file.
Master and burn.

Choose one of the pieces provided and after practising the parts, sequence them and add a live audio track.
You should try and make the melody as rhythmically accurate as possible. This may mean putting up with the odd wrong note until you have practised a lot.
Check the key signature for # and b’s. Remember they affect the note on that line or space for the whole piece.
Accidentals last for that bar only.
Try singing or humming along.
Look for opportunities to copy and paste and map out the structure.
The audio track could be instead of one of the sequenced parts. The melody is most suitable as this will test your mic technique and cut down on your sequencing time.
