This assignment is broken in to 2 elements; Recording and Mixing.
All students should aim to complete the recording element by the end of the Autumn Term. Successful capture is fairly straightforward but mixing requires a greater degree of research and trailing.
Key Points
- The piece should be from AoS 2 – Popular Music since 1910.
- 2 to 4 minutes long.
- 8 tracks minimum.
- 4 tracks minimum captured by mic.
- Use overdub techniques.
- Live musicians only, no sequencing.
- 20 hours work time.
Approach
- Identify suitable bands or musicians, repertoire and skill.
- Standard band line-up is straightforward.
- Make recording plan, mic choice and placement.
- Guide track – vox and harmony INCLUDING COUNT-IN AND INTRO.
- Bass and drums (take photos for log).
- Guitar/harmony.
- Main vocal.
- Solo’s/ additional tracks.
- Review tracks then leave well alone for a few days.
- Mix and burn to CD for playing on a range of equipment (complete log).
