You have a job interview for the position of composer for a TV advertising company. The interview is only a short time away and you need to create four original ideas, lasting between 10 and 20 seconds that show different styles.
You know that the advertising company specialises in car adverts and cosmetics (both male and female). Your four ideas should each have a different product in mind, to show off your flexibility.
You will be given a number of video clips to choose from, some featuring cars and some featuring cosmetics and should select two of each.
You will load your chosen clips into a Cubase project and create musical ideas to fit the video clips. The four compositions should be in contrasting styles to demonstrate your versatility, yet be in keeping with each individual video clip so keep this in mind when selecting clips to use.
Select two of each type of advert from these clips:
You should import each of your chosen clips on to a video track in four separate Cubase projects labelling each one ‘Advert 1’, ‘Advert 2’, ‘Advert 3’ and ‘Advert 4’. Utilise audio/MIDI tracks to record the music you are creating to complement each of the visuals.
Your compositions will need to start from different musical elements and demonstrate a range of compositional concepts and techniques, using sound palettes appropriate for each product, and rhythmic/melodic ideas, riffs and hooks to enhance the mood of each video clip.
Each clip will last between 20 and 40 seconds.
Evidence you must produce for this task
A portfolio of four short ideas, comprising of four Cubase project files and four PowerPoint presentations using screenshots to illustrate each of your musical ideas and how they relate to the on-screen images.
