Art Textiles Techniques - Quilting

Quilting is when you put padding between two layers of fabric. This can give your work a raised look and can add texture. There are several different types of quilting:

  • English quilting where the padding (called wadding) is sandwiched between two pieces of fabric and all three layers sewn through.
  • Trapunto quilting where individual shapes are padded with wadding.
  • Italian or corded quilting where parallel lines of stitching are sewn and cord threaded between them.
