Art Textiles involves much more than using a sewing machine, but there are many exciting and creative effects you can achieve on a sewing machine and so you will find it essential to learn how to use one.
Although you can use the sewing machine to construct things, it is often useful to think of it as a drawing tool - like a pen or pencil, and use is as such.
The sewing machines that we use in Art Textiles are Bernina sewing machines. They are very robust and will sew through all sorts of things but can be a risk if not used properly so please familiarise yourself with the safety section below.
