Product Design Year 8 - Developing Ideas

Overview

Develop a Brainstorm that explores the limitations and possibilities of the Lamp. Use a variety of techniques to show your thinking on the page. Make use of text, symbols, pictures and colour.

Create a resource board which can be used for inspiration for your Lamp. Include images of Lamps you like as well as examples of materials that might let light through successfully.

It should be informally presented, use annotation for communicating your thoughts and should be packed with relevant images that may be used for the Lamp! (Home Study)

Activities

Brainstorm

Analyse your thoughts using a spider diagram. You should consider what factors will influence the end quality, finish and successfulness of your Lamp.

Consider using colour, sketches, text and symbols to explore your thoughts.

Searching

When Searching on the internet you must vary the query that you enter. There is so much information on the web that unless your search is specific you will get pointless results.

Materials Experimentation

The point of this activity is for you to start designing without drawing!

Explore how materials perform when light is shone behind them. Consider the aesthetic effect of these materials and how they might be combined.

A large variety of materials already have been discussed and you have explored them further through your Brainstorm and Resource Board.

Home Study

Resource Board

Create a resource board which can be used for inspiration for your Lamp. Include images of Lamps you like as well as examples of materials that might let light through successfully.

It should be informally presented, use annotation for communicating your thoughts and should be packed with relevant images that may be used for the Lamp!

Gather suitable materials for experimenting with next lesson.

Materials Experimentation

Your home study is to write up what you have done so digital photographs would be extremely helpful.

A possible format for this home study is below.

What did you use? What did you do?Was it successful?
I used Polypropylene milk bottle lids.I arranged them on Baking Paper and heated them with an Iron.It was successful and lights up in colour well.
