Product Design Year 7 - Design Specification

Overview

You need to complete a design specification. This is a detailed list of points that identify what you are aiming to achieve with your product and is an essential part of the design process. When you finish the project you will be able to look over the specification and decide how well your finished clock does what you set out to make.

Activities

Your clock should meet the targets listed below:

  • Form - How should the product be styled?
  • Function - The product is designed to tell the time and serve as a decorative ornament in the home.
  • User requirements - What qualities would make the product attractive to potential users?
  • Material requirements - The materials used will be chosen to look appealing to the chosen user. Colour may be added using wood stains in order to improve the aesthetics of the product. The components used within the clock will be made to a high standard.
  • Scale of production and cost - The clock should be batch produced and will cost £2
  • Sustainability - Some component parts will be made from re-used and recycled materials. At the end of the clocks useful life some parts will be removable so that they can be recycled or re-used.

Complete the specification points for Form and User requirements. The rest have been provided for you.
