Year 8 Graphics - Home Study

The Rules

  • Home study is not optional. You are expected to do it.
  • Home study is for your benefit to help you to progress and if you don't do your home study, or you do it to a very poor standard then you will have to stay in at lunchtime to complete/redo it.
  • We do know that sometimes there are really genuine reasons for not getting homework in on time. Make sure that you see someone way before the home study due date if your reason is genuine.
  • Forgetting to bring your home study to school counts as not doing it.

HOME COMPUTER NOT WORKING? Use a school one - there are plenty in school.

HOME PRINTER NOT WORKING: As above.

DOG, SISTER, MUM, SNAKE ETC ate your homework. We have pretty much heard most of these, so no, they are not reasons for not handing in home study.

FORGOT TO DO/BRING IN MY HOME STUDY: be more organised, if you can remember your lunch/lunch money then you can remember your home study.

LEFT MY HOME STUDY AT SOMEONE'S HOUSE: as above, be more organised

NEED HELP: Come and ask.

GENUINE REASON? Come and see us well before the day the homework is due.

SELLOTAPE IS BANNED: Use a glue stick.

THE BOTTOM LINE IS: Get your homework done.

Home Study 1

The Task

1. LOOK at the exemplars in the gallery (or on the 'Exemplars' PowerPoint)

2. Create an inspiration board on A4 LANDSCAPE paper based on the attraction that you have chosen to do.

This MUST NOT just be images of theme parks. You need to use other images as well as some other materials and not just computer printouts. GLUE things on to reflect the colours and mood of the attraction you have chosen to advertise. Arrange your inspiration board BEFORE you glue it down.

Tips: Use things like bits of paint charts to show colours, maybe bits of fabric, cellophane, handwritten words, paint.... the list is endless, but please remember that you will need to stick this work into your book so it should be flat without too many bits sticking out.

The Task

1.CONNECT to the school Gateway if you are at home (click on the link on the red stripe below) OR use a school computer.

2. Design three logos in Illustrator that fit with your theme in black and white. THEN copy and paste each one, and add some colour/effects to it. Save the file and email it to psilverwood. You should have 6 logos in total, three in black and white and three that are coloured. USE LETTERS AND SHAPES.

Tips: Change lettering so that it has anchor points on it that you can 'pull about'. Do the same with shapes that fit your theme. Make sure that your logo designs are SIMPLE.

The Task

Your task is to write a design specification for your poster. Under 'Useful Information' you will find a file giving ideas on how to do the design specification, and ideas on laying it out on your page.

LOOK at the file called 'Design Spec', there are questions on this to help you. ANSWER these in sentences, you can use the Word File called 'Template to fill in if you like. You can CHANGE the colours of the template boxes and the fonts etc to match your theme. OR you can set out the specification how YOU want to.

Tips: Your design specification should tell you all the things that your poster has to have, has to do and has to be.
